On April 16th, 2016 Kairos Palestine organized a workshop for youth as part of the overall strategy to train and empower young Palestinian Christians as "Kairos Ambassadors". In the morning, Patriarch emerit. Michel Sabbach started with a lecture on the very basic message of the Kairos document: How can we implement the idea of Kairos in our daily lives in which we are faced with challenges such as the occupation and the corresponding inhuman acts Palestinians are facing? He called upon resistance, but a resistance which is based on humanity and see the image of God in everyone, even in an Israeli soldier at the checkpoint.
The second session was about context, the Applied Research Institute Jerusalem (ARIJ) presented facts and figures about Israeli settlements, access to water and the economic situation in Palestine. Even though, Palestinians know about these facts and figures (as they are personally facing this oppression daily) feedback from the audience showed that actually things are much worse than expected.
The afternoon was full of participatory methods aiming to develop an action plan for Kairos Palestine's youth work. In small groups, strategies to reach the local youth have been brainstormed. The day clearly showed that Kairos is for everyone and that especially the younger generate can be change agents who promote and share a vision of just peace and life with dignity in Palestine and Israel.
In 2014, Kairos Palestine conducted several workshops, among them a comprehensive study circle on the theological aspect of the document, with special focus on the themes of the Old Testament that relate to our Christian faith and our daily lives, such as the promises, the election, the people of God and the land.
In other study circles, the challenges of Palestinian Christian youth were discussed, highlighting the mission of the church on a local level. These workshops were held at the Latin Seminary in Beit Jala, Fr. Jamal Khader lead all the study circles with 12 motivated and energetic young people from Bethlehem, Beit Jala, Beit Sahour and Jerusalem.
Kairos Palestine already has ambassadors who participated in several speaking tours that took place in the United States, South Korea, Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Jordan.
