Flotilla raid 'could have led to war'
A Palestinian Christian community leader has warned that the deaths of nine pro-Palestinian activists during an Israeli raid of an aid flotilla off the Gaza Strip could have triggered all-out war in the region.
Co-ordinator of the Kairos Palestine Movement, Rifat Kassis, is in Australia, along with the Executive Secretary of the Middle East Council of Churches, Constantine Dabbagh told Andrew Reid, they believe the Israeli blockade on Gaza is exarcerbating the fragile situation in the region.

People often think of the Israel Palestine conflict as a clash between Judaism and Islam. But there are a smaller number of Palestinian Christians who are also caught up in the conflict. This week two leaders of the Palestinian Christian community have come to Australia to raise awareness of the plight of the Palestinian population. Rifat Kassis and Constantine Dabbagh are here as guests of the Australian Council of Churches. They come bearing a message that is highly critical of Israel’s tight military blockade of the Gaza strip. They say that the population of Gaza desperately needs more of the raw materials and building supplies that the Gaza aid Flotilla attempted to deliver in May.
